An extra badly injured on the "Transformers 3" set in Hammond remained in critical condition Thursday.

Gabriela V. Cedillo, 24, suffered a head injury when a multi-vehicle stunt went awry Wednesday on the Cline Avenue Bridge extension, Indiana State Police said.

According to published reports, a metal cable snapped, sliced through her windshield, and struck the Chicago woman as she sat behind the wheel of her Toyota. Her car rolled a mile, repeatedly hitting the median concrete barrier before coming to a stop. The accident occurred shortly before 7 p.m. on the closed bridge.

Cedillo was airlifted to Loyola Medical Center in Maywood, Ill. The hospital declined to comment on her condition, but a relative advised state police Thursday that she is expected to remain in critical "for several days," Sgt. Ann Wojas said.

Direct Michael Bay immediately halted production of the shoot, slated to wrap Thursday after scenes were filmed in Millennium Park and Hyde Park in Chicago. Bay, DreamWorks and Paramount officials have yet to issue a statement on the near-tragedy.

Off-duty state troopers, East Chicago police and Hammond firefighters were on traffic and security detail at the site while Chicago counterparts oversaw safety issues.

"Chicago basically handled the incident," Hammond Fire Battalion Chief Michael Opinker said. "We were out on standby."

Bay and crew filmed without incident last month in Gary, shooting scenes Aug. 11 at an industrial site east of the Majestic Star Casino and Aug. 16 at the City Methodist Church in Gary.

Bay was "extremely cooperative" said Ben Clement, Director of the Gary Office of Film and Television, agreeing to mandates that local police and firefighters supervise safety measures.

Earlier last month, a production intern fractured his right ankle and foot during a mishap on the "Transformers 3" set in Chicago. The victim, who had pre-signed a confidentiality contract, was treated at Northwestern Memorial Hospital and released.
